A Practice Built on
Considered Work

Moongate was founded to offer Hong Kong organisations a different kind of consulting relationship — one characterised by intellectual care, honest dialogue, and a genuine commitment to what works in practice.

Our Story

Why Moongate Exists

Moongate was established in Hong Kong with a straightforward premise: that many organisations facing important decisions would benefit from a consulting relationship that values depth over speed, and nuance over formula.

The practice grew from conversations with senior leaders who described a recurring frustration — engaging consultants who arrived with frameworks already in hand, fitting the client's situation to their preferred methodology rather than the other way around. We believed there was a need for something different.

Our name takes its meaning from the circular gateways found in Hong Kong's temples and gardens — structures that frame what lies ahead without prescribing the path. This felt right for the kind of consulting we wanted to offer: one that opens possibilities without forcing conclusions.

Today, Moongate works with a select group of organisations each year, keeping our practice small by choice so we can give each engagement the attention it deserves.

Our Mission

To help Hong Kong organisations think more clearly about their future, operate with greater coherence, and build the institutional knowledge that sustains them over time.

Our Vision

A consulting practice trusted for intellectual rigour and honest counsel — where the quality of thinking is as important as the quality of the deliverable.

Our Values

Intellectual honesty, proportionate scope, collaborative engagement, and discretion. We apply these consistently — whether a project is large or small.

How We Work

Professional Standards We Hold Ourselves To

These are not aspirational statements — they are operational commitments that shape how we structure, deliver, and conclude every engagement.

Scoped Proposals

Every engagement begins with a written proposal defining scope, deliverables, timeline, and fee. Nothing proceeds without agreed parameters.

Confidentiality Protocols

All client information is treated with strict confidentiality. We operate under mutual NDA and apply professional conduct standards that exceed contractual minimums.

Conflict Management

We do not work simultaneously with competing organisations within the same industry segment. Potential conflicts are disclosed before engagement begins.

Honest Feedback

We share findings as we understand them, including observations that may be uncomfortable. Our value lies in candid assessment, not in confirming existing positions.

Knowledge Transfer

We design engagements to transfer capability into your organisation, not create dependency on external support. The goal is that you leave more capable than before.

Data Protection

Client data is stored securely and retained only for the period required. We comply with Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and best practice data governance principles.

Our Expertise

Built Around Hong Kong Organisations

Business consulting in Hong Kong operates in a context unlike most other global cities. Organisations here navigate regulatory frameworks that span multiple jurisdictions, cultural dynamics that shape how decisions are made and communicated, and economic conditions that shift with unusual speed. Consultants who arrive with generic playbooks often find their recommendations land poorly — not because the underlying analysis is wrong, but because the context has been underweighted.

Moongate was designed around this reality. Our work on scenario planning draws on deep familiarity with the kinds of strategic uncertainties that matter most to Hong Kong-based organisations — from cross-border policy shifts to succession dynamics within founder-led businesses. Our quality management reviews reflect understanding of how documentation and process control actually function in Chinese-language operating environments. Our knowledge management work addresses the particular challenge of capturing expertise in organisations where much of what matters has never been written down.

We work in English and Chinese, and draw on networks across the professional services, financial, logistics, education, and property sectors. Our engagements are conducted with a level of care that reflects the trust clients place in us — and with a directness that reflects our belief that organisations are best served by honest, considered counsel rather than comfortable agreement.
